Before we begin, let’s just address the elephant in the room. Yes, we are writing about apps to download on your phone or device to help you connect with yourself through meditation. Sound a little paradoxical? Well it is, we agree. However, if you’ve ever sat down, and told yourself, ok, time to meditate; go. You might understand that it’s not always that simple. Perhaps you can’t seem to get your mind off how much traffic there was or you can’t remember whether or not you emailed Dave from HR back. A lot goes on as we move through our hectic days. By choosing to use a highly rated meditation app, you are giving yourself a powerful resource to keep up with a successful meditation practice. There is no shame in using an app and we’re going to tell you why as we describe the 3 top-rated meditation apps below.
Insight Timer is the most popular free meditation app on the iTunes App Store. This is a great place to start if you haven’t used a meditation app and want to try before you buy. Insight Timer boasts 1.3 billion mediation minutes, so you could literally meditate for the rest of your life if you wanted to. But then you wouldn’t have the time to pet a dog or go out for tacos, so, better not. This app also offers 3,500 guided mediations which are a great tool to use to stay centered and on track while you’re practicing.
My favorite thing about the Calm app is that it offers 20+ adult bed time stories to lull you to sleep. As a twenty-something, I am constantly pretending to be an adult, so they appealed right to my nostalgic nature with that one. Aside from this, Calm offers guided meditations for beginners, intermediate, and advanced level users. You can choose between meditations with lengths varying anywhere from 3-25 minutes. On top of all of this, you can also track your progress each day you practice and keep track of which guided meditation topics you choose. Calm is either $12.99 to go month-to-month, or $4.99 if you sign up for a year.
What's great about the Headspace app is that it offers 10 free 10 minute mediation sessions designed for beginners to learn the basic foundation of meditation. Once you complete these 10 courses, you are given a few different options on how you’d like to continue your subscription. Headspace allows you to track your progress and incentivizes daily practice by providing rewards and sending you reminders to stay on track with your practice. Another great feature of Headspace is that you can also download sessions for offline use. Perfect for your next long trip. Meditating on airplanes is easy, right? Regardless, it’s an awesome way to help you stay on top of your practice and forget the excuses. Similar to Calm, you can purchase Headspace monthly for $12.95 each month, yearly for $7.99 a month, or you could purchase 2 years worth for $6.24 a month, or if you’re up for it, you could buy it forever for $419.95.
Well, there you have it! The top mediation apps to help bring your practice to life. We hope one of these apps sound like the right fit for you. Namaste!
